Seattle

On Saturday we drove down to Seattle for the day. It was raining and overcast in Vancouver...and it was the same in Seattle. Oh well, didn't matter, we weren't going for the sunshine. We arrived just before noon and spent the next half an hour looking for parking. This already felt the same as home.

Our first stop was the Experience Music Project. I hadn't been in about 5 years and Sam had never seen it. Cheap tickets at only $15 made us happy. Since the gift shop was right by the front door we went there first and picked up our babies first soother.

Then we walked around the rest of the museum and looked at a bunch of stuff for me.

Me messing around with
a display.

After that it was time to get on the monorail and head towards the mall. After a stop in the food court we walked down to the famous market.

Had a great time and we'll try to go back more often.

As for the baby, everything is going great, KOW. Tomorrow is going to be 3 months which is a very good milestone to hit. Sam says she can start to feel that there is a baby in there when she lies a certain way. We found a book last night that shows you actual sizes of the babies progress and it was amazing to see how everything is formed already and how big it is. Well tiny really but bigger than you think.

The next doctors appointment is next Thursday and we're supposed to hear the heart beat at that one.

Limey

No our baby isn't an Englishman but it is the size of a lime. That was kind of a big jump there. Seems like it doubled in size. If this continues our baby is going to come out the size of Donkey Kong.

Nothing much new since last update. Same symptoms and cravings.

It was great to see over the weekend at a party that we had, how supportive and happy our family and friends are. There were toasts, questions and concerns all about our little Nutley. We truly are a very lucky couple. KOW.

We're thinking of going down to Seattle for the day on Saturday so we'll try and get some pictures taken of the Mommy.

Pruney

Sorry, nothing creative for a prune and I'm not going to make a poo joke.

Well we're up to a prune which I always assumed was smaller than an olive. Don't know how that works. Apparently though the teeth are forming and so are a lot of the bones. Coooooool.

My little wifer is handling the pregnancy well and dealing with the symptoms as they come and go. What a trooper.

I wish we had more pictures to put up but there's nothing really to photograph right now. Unless you want pictures of pickles, nausea or maternity clothes I've got nothing for ya. Maybe next week.

Feel free to comment on any of these posts. It might make the blog a bit more exciting in the early months.

Olive

Well we've reached the olive. Our little baby is the size of an olive. Whether it's a Kalamata or Manzanilla I don't know. Hopefully it's not holding onto a pimento.

Things seem to be progressing as normal KOW (that's knock on wood. We do that about 467 times a day, pretty much every time we mention the baby). My wife has got her next doctor's appointment today. I'm not going to this one as it's bit more "girly intrusive" and apparently I could get a bit uncomfortable. Fine with me. I'm looking forward to the ultrasound one which should be coming up soon.

Nothing much else new for now. Our little olive is doing well KOW.

Mother's Day

A present from Nana Nutley and Grandad Paddy. Baby Nutley's first Rock T-shirt.

Of course I had to get my wife flowers and a card for her first Mother's Day.

Pickles

Ding! Ding! Here comes the cravings! The cliché pickle craving has hit. We went to the grocery store today and bought 2 jars. Sure they were on sale if you bought 2 but I think we were getting them anyways. We also got a chocolate cream pie. Lucky I like to eat all that stuff too. Don't worry it's not all junk. We had potatoes and asparagus along with dinner. We're both eating lots of fruits and vegetables. We've found the best way to shop for food is one or two days at a time since her tastes change and we don't want to be throwing out food everyday.

The hormone tests came back from the doctor and our little Mortimer is progressing properly. Very good news. We've passed the 2 month mark as well and next week the baby is going to be the size of an olive.

Raspberry Beret

This week our baby is the size of a raspberry. Just makes me think of the Prince song.

Good news! Sam talked to the doctor and all of the blood work came back without any problems. Very good news and it made us both very happy and relieved.

We went down to Granville Island yesterday as you can see from the pic of my wife wearing a trenchcoat and closing her eyes when I took a picture of her. She had a meeting with some clients at a coffee shop. When she ordered a decaf, the first reaction from the bride was "Are you pregnant?". It's getting very hard to keep this under wraps.

After that we went to Metrotown to do some shopping. Sam found a maternity store and bought some new clothes. Since she spent a fortune, they gave us a baby-hoodie. Good deal.

Other than that it's pretty much life as usual. We had some friends over to watch the hockey game on Saturday night (go Canucks!) and Sam found a way to fit in with the rest of the drinking crowd. She bought some 'kids wine' from our trip to the Okanagan. It's like a carbonated juice in a wine bottle made for kids. Worked out pretty well.

Mortimer

First Doctor's appointment yesterday. Well the first one with the doctor who we're going to be seeing regularly. We met with Dr. Rachel Bright at Peace Arch Hospital. Lots of forms to fill out where Sam wrote her birthday and address about 17 times. The doctor asked us a few more questions beyond the forms and explained what the next few visits were going to be like. Then Sam got her blood taken where they're going to be running a bunch of tests to make sure everything is going good. I'm glad I went and was able to talk to the doctor. I'll try to make all of the appointments that I can and definitely be there for the big ones. I'll try to update the blog with some pictures tonight.

P.S. For some reason I've been calling the baby Mortimer. I don't know why I associate an old man name with the baby but I do. Sam says I should call it Mortimina too in case it's a girl.

Cinnamon Bun

The baby was named by its Auntie Daryl this time. We need a sticky baby right now and that lead to a cinnamon bun.

Nothing much new with the pregnant lady. A few cravings but nothing weird. Some slight nausea but not too bad.

The shopping has begun though. Some of Sunday was spent looking through the maternity section for Belly Bands (some Kung Fu looking belt device used to hold your pants up so you don't have to button them. Maybe I should get one too). We also found Belly Bars which are granola bars with all of the vitamins she needs. Seems like a good idea.

It's seems like it's harder to hide the pregnancy and so more people are finding out. We went over to a friends house to watch the hockey game where all of the guys were drinking beer. The girls ( who didn't know) offered Sam drinks which she kept declining. Eventually she had to tell them. Oh well, everyone is excited for us.

We are currently in Osoyoos previewing a new resort and about to go on a wine tour. Guess I'll be drinking two shares!

Bug

Baby is still the size of a Blueberry (until next Wednesday) so no new nickname yet. However, we have been calling him or her "Bug" once in a while. My wife came up with that one...as in "No, I'm fine, it's just a little bug". Very clever if you ask me! She also found out how to 're-decorate' the blog hence today's new layout. It should stay like this until she changes her mind again...and then it will get it's third new look.

Anyway, nothing much new to report today, except that our first doctors appointment has been moved forward so its now going to be this coming Thursday at Peace Arch Hospital. Today is also "Grandpa" Rick & "Great-Nana" Joan's birthday so all three of us would like to wish them each a very Happy Birthday! Have a good weekend everyone!

Baby Bluey

Baby Bluey = the baby is the size of a blueberry, anyone who's seen Seinfeld....Baby Bluey.

The symptoms have started and are coming on strong. To avoid the risk of embarrassing my wife, I won't go into detail. Well at least not the embarrassing ones. Use your imagination. We’ve found that it’s best to eat lots of small meals during the day rather than 3 big meals. I made chicken tacos last night which went over well and nothing there seemed to cause any discomfort. Lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream and green onions are now on the safe list. She likes coleslaw and I don’t know if that’s her first craving or just something she likes because I’m always handed the White Spot coleslaw when we go out. There is also a mountain of fruit on our counter that we’re going to be eating constantly. So far just apples, oranges and bananas and we’ll see how those react with our new found lifestyle.

We told our parents on Sunday night and it had to be the happiest room in the world. The look on our mothers faces when they opened up the bags with bibs in them was priceless. Fortunately Rachel caught the perfect moment like a paparazzi.

Then we made the round of phone calls from Vancouver to Phoenix to Dublin to let family know.

We’re trying to keep the reigns on family members for now and we’ll let the rest of our friends know after 3 months (which I think is the beginning of June). So if you’re privileged enough to be reading this blog it means you’re in the know. Consider yourself lucky and don’t post it on Facebook. Weird that you have to tell people that.

After that it was back to the Berry household for some pictures of the new grandparents and the new aunties.

Mushy Peas

Day number....5? Well 5 from when we found out. The number of people in the loop grew last night. I told 4 of my best friends (JP, Rob, Tyler and Derek) and Sam told Laura. JP gave us a group hug, Rob said "How'd that happen?" and Tyler is going to get the baby a jean vest. It all went very well, everyone is very excited and happy. Tomorrow gets to be the big day where we tell our parents. I have no doubt it's going to be very loud and emotional. Tears, handshakes and hugs all around.

Nausea is starting. So far bacon and cucumbers are on the no-go list but like some magic elixir, sparkling water relieves the pain that those foods cause. Kind of like Legend of Zelda. Sam needs a regular helping of red or blue potions.

That's all for tonight. Oh and for the Mushy Peas, I've been informed that the baby is the size of a pea. Well calling the baby pea isn't very original or exciting and since I love mushy peas...Bingo! I have been informed though that the baby isn't mushy and it should be called strong. Not quite the same ring to it. To sum it up, I love mushy peas and I love my baby.

Citrus Baby

No one knows (besides 2 sisters, a friend and a drugstore owner who sold my wife 7 pregnancy tests) but my wife Samantha Nutley is pregnant.

She just left the doctors office and we have our first appointment in May. 4 days ago I was surprised in the parking lot of work by a crying wife holding a digital pregnancy test that read 'pregnant'.

Don't worry they were tears of joy. We hugged while the thought of future responsibility rushed between our brains. We're both very happy, excited, nervous and anxious. My wonderful wife went home after this and confirmed the results by taking 6 more pregnancy tests. I later that night took one too. Sorry to report but I'm not having a baby.

We'll be using this blog to keep up to date with writing and pics for whoever wants to read it. The next 9 months are sure to be very busy and emotional as 2 brand new parents try to figure it out. Lucky we're going to have a lot of help. Hopefully.

P.S. The title may be confusing but apparently the baby is the size of an orange seed, thus the nickname 'Citrus Baby'.
